D.C. Coffee Entrepreneur Looks To Grow Her Hip-Hop-Inspired Cold Brew Business – CoffeeTalk

Taneisha Hasan, a D.C. resident, runs her company, Black Vinegar Collection, which produces and sells vegan cold-brew lattes. The lattes are a physical manifestation of “Black Coffee,” a song from Heavy D & The Boyz that honors Black women. Hasan sources her coffee beans from Three Keys Coffee in Texas and grinds them to create the cold-brew base. She uses agave and oat milk to ensure vegans and lactose intolerant individuals can enjoy the lattes.

Hasan began Black Vinegar Collection as a fashion brand in 2017, selling hip-hop-branded items like yoga mats, hoodies, tote bags, and moka pots for making coffee. She later branched out to coffee, creating a cold-brew concentrate and selling it at concerts. Today, BVC is more of a coffee brand that sells apparel and accessories, including a delicate gold necklace with “cold brew” on its nameplate.

Hasan’s mission with BVC is to help change hip-hop’s negative perception by subliminally promoting the product. She estimates that 20 percent of her clientele is Black, with the rest being people of other races. She wants to raise $15,000 to can her “brew babies,” which would allow her to ship them all over the United States.
