Au Sable Cafe Set to Serve its First Cup of Coffee Next Semester – CoffeeTalk

A new coffee counter will open in SUNY Plattsburgh’s School of Business and Economics lobby for the spring 2024 semester. The student initiative began two years ago and will involve all aspects of the business and economics programs. The idea began during a visit by alumnus Norman Radow ’78, founder of RADCO Companies in Atlanta, Ga., who mentioned there was no place for students to meet with alumni and other potential recruiters.

Wanda Carroll, lecturer in supply chain management and international business, created a survey asking students what they’d like to see and researched universities worldwide to find student-run programs. Over 250 students responded, and the plan was approved for operation in mid-November. The café will offer experiential learning experiences and create a sustainable model, using locally roasted coffee and other items.

The plan was presented to the dean and provost in early summer 2023 and approved for operation in mid-November. Dr. Brian Neureuther, dean of SBE, said his team is eyeing a Feb. 5 grand opening. The lobby area has already begun a transformation with furniture moved about, and Chartwells has generously donated refrigeration for the kitchen and a point-of-sale system.
