We had this coffee in 2021 and now we’ve brought it back! Ecuador Typica Natural from Karla Garcia’s farm, Finca Bruhwer is loaded with tasting notes of fruit and chocolate. Typica is a very old coffee variety from Ethiopia that spread around the coffee growing world. Karla Garcia cultivates Typica, along with other varieties, and separates them as micro-lots to enjoy each variety on its own. Her farm is located in Loja, Ecuador at around 1,900 meters!

In addition to Finca Bruhwer, Karla runs Wild Coffee, an Ecuadorian roasting company. She buys cherry from more than 70 coffee growing families in Ecuador, and then her team processes the cherry to ensure quality and add value. Besides coffee, her company focuses on social projects, adolescent sports programs, and gender equality—she really does it all!

While Typica is highly valued for its citrusy and floral characteristics, it’s actually quite difficult to grow. It has a low yield and is more susceptible to plant disease, but despite the difficulties, it offers an excellent cup quality. Karla is dedicated to producing the coffee, which makes the end result even sweeter.

At Finca Bruhwer the natural lots dry for about 20 days in both direct sunlight and parabolic dryers. The result? Delicious flavors like rose, cherry, strawberry, and milk chocolate. We’re grateful for Karla’s dedication to excellence!
